College Football Tidbit: Aug 3, 2023

We all know that college baseball is ultimately a warm weather (or at least not a harsh winter) sport, but looking at the national champions during the BCS/College Football Playoff era (which is what should count since the Rose Bowl/B1G and the soon to be defunct (most likely) Pac-12 held the sport hostage and caused split national titles and insanity such as that for decades prior) you’d think it was.

The only program to win all the marbles in college football located north of the Mason-Dixon Line during this time period is Ohio State. The Buckeyes won the title in 2002 and 2014. Both times were considered somewhat of a surprise. Ohio State was a big underdog to the last great Miami (Fla.) team in the 2002 title game before springing the upset. Then in 2014, the Buckeyes, led by Urban Meyer, marched through the inaugural college football playoff with a third-string quarterback to win it, downing Alabama in New Orleans and then Oregon in Arlington, Texas to do it.

Other than that, it’s been warm weather all the way.
